Chief Executive Officer
William Novelli is the chief executive officer of AARP. Widely credited as the “father” of the field of social marketing, and named as one of the 100 most influential public relations professionals of the 20th century, Bill has always had a deep interest in helping to solve major social problems and creating positive social change. As co-founder and president of Porter Novelli, one of the world’s largest public relations agencies, executive vice president and chief operating officer of CARE, the world's largest private relief and development organization, and co-founder and president of Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, a nonprofit organization working to change public policy and the social environment in ways that prevent another generation from using tobacco, Bill has had ample opportunity to pursue his interests.
He holds a masters degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School for Communication, and taught marketing management and health communication courses at the University of Maryland for ten years. His book, 50+: Igniting a Revolution to Reinvent America, was published in 2006.
